The Corn Palace, Mitchell, South Dakota

One of the most underrated places on earth. The Corn Palace is a place like no other. It will not astound or amaze, but you will be drawn to it nonetheless. It satisfies some deep, Midwestern urge that nobody has a name for yet. I was there 11 years ago and could still give you a minute-by-minute account of what I did.

But I won't.

Father Flanagan's Boys Home

This is certainly the oldest float pen I've got. Whatever it is that's supposed to float doesn't do it. And the colors faded long ago. I picked this up at a swap meet out in the desert for $5.

Is this place still around? I have no idea where it is, or was.

The only other thing to note is the end cap is more round and pointy than the squared off ends of all the others.

Chicago

Never been there, but if float pens have taught me anything over the years, it's that they speak only the truth. Otherwise, I would have never known it was so windy in Chicago.

Badlands, South Dakota

Purchased from the world famous Wall Drug Store. I bought 6 or 7 of these babies and handed them out as gifts to a VERY select few. It took me over a year to give them away. I wasn't just GIVING them out - these were a special gift to those lucky few.
